Our Campus

St. Richard's Episcopal School is located in an urban setting, just a few miles north of downtown Indianapolis. The past 10 years have seen a series of campus improvements to accommodate growing enrollment and meet the evolving needs of our students.

Campus Features

Local Architect: Evans Woollen

St. Richard's has partnered with various local artists and architects over the years. For example, the gymnatorium, built in 1988, was designed by local architect Evans Woollen, often referred to as "Indiana’s great Modernist architect" whose other local works include Clowes Memorial Hall on the nearby campus of Butler University and Barton Towers and the Minton-Capehart Federal Building in downtown Indianapolis. Mr. Woollen's work in Indiana is highlighted in a recent book by St. Richard's alumni Phillip Cox (writer) and Niall Cronin (photographer).

Local Artist: Fitz

We are pleased to partner with local Black artist Fitz on his first public art sculpture. Thanks to a partnership with GANGGANG Culture, co-founded by St. Richard's alumna Mali Bacon, and local fabricators at 900 North Studios (makers of Funky Bones at Newfields), we are bringing a one-of-a-kind sculpture to the southwest corner of our campus in 2026. Designed based on student input, the sculpture celebrates local art and the power of community. Today, the image shows a blank canvas, but visit us again soon to see Fitz's vision come to life!

Local Impact: Ecological Rain Garden

Recognizing the value of green space in our urban location, St. Richard's is working to establish a rain garden at the corner of 32nd and Meridian Streets. Our rain garden includes a wide variety of native plants--prairie grasses and flowering species--with deep roots that can prevent stormwater runoff and filter pollutants, helping to protect the Fall Creek Watershed. Seeds were just planted in the spring of 2026, and we look forward to seeing what will grow and bloom in the coming months and years, as the new plants are more established.

Local Partnership: Indianapolis Public Library

St. Richard's is part of the Indianapolis Public Library shared system, which allows faculty and students alike to access a wide array of books and resources for research and learning. Students at shared system member libraries have access to their own library's collection as well as over 2 million additional Indianapolis Public Library books, resources, and databases. These students have unique access to a city's worth of resources without ever having to leave their school or community library. It's a wonderful way to support our students' natural curiosity!

Local Investor: Lilly Endowment Inc.

In 2025, Lilly Endowment Inc. gave grants to multiple Marion County schools. St. Richard's is proud to have received one of those grants: the largest single financial gift in our school's history. The grant funds are being used to strengthen our experiential learning program and will help to fund the building of additional classrooms and shared spaces to better enable that educational focus.
