Experiential Learning

St. Richard's has long valued the benefits of experiential learning, taking advantage of its central location near downtown and its vital partnerships throughout the city. Students of all ages regularly enjoy field experiences, such as trips to the nearby Children's Museum and Indianapolis Zoo, overnight excursions to Waycross Camp and Conference Center, or a kayaking day-trip to Turkey Run State Park. In 2025, St. Richard's was honored to receive an investment from The Lilly Endowment, Inc., to deepen our commitment to experiential learning and prepare students to adapt to our ever-changing world. It's an exciting time to join us!

Complementing Our Classic Curriculum

Our enhanced curricular approach is a dynamic framework where experiential learning becomes another powerful way for students to demonstrate deep, durable understanding.

A World Where Students Thrive

Students who engage in experiential learning will demonstrate improved competencies, skills, and mindsets that prepare them for success, through increased self-efficacy, engagement, resilience, and confidence.

Enhanced Community Partnerships

Aligned with our Episcopal mission and values, St. Richard's is committed to extending the benefits of experiential learning beyond our own student body and into the broader community.

The Experiential Pathways Initiative is not a new mission or a new set of priorities. Rather, it is one way we bring our mission to life by instilling "knowledge and values for a lifetime." Through authentic learning experiences, students engage deeply with our Five Pillars for Success: exercising leadership, serving their communities, exploring their faith through inquiry and reflection, applying a timeless curriculum in meaningful ways, and developing the skills needed to thrive as globally minded citizens.
