Lower Division (Grades 1-4)

Students in elementary school undergo major cognitive, social, and physical shifts, moving from concrete thinking to more complex reasoning, independence, and peer socialization. St. Richard's builds upon the foundation of our Early Childhood program, with continued emphasis on language arts and literacy, science and mathematics, French language and culture, public speaking, and music, while setting behavioral expectations and supporting social-emotional development.

Classroom learning is supported by an array of field experiences, school assemblies--many of which are led by students--and traditions that provide multiple ways for students to expand their understanding of the world and develop deep friendships that lay the foundation for Knowledge and Values for a Lifetime.

The Importance of Play

Elementary students need to balance cognitive and physical growth. That's why St. Richard's provides time for daily breaks and recess, allowing large-muscle movement indoors and out. 

Buddies

Children naturally look up to older students as role models. That's why St. Richard's matches students across grades, to encourage connections and leadership opportunities for older students. 

Expanding Understanding

Reading gives students a way to see themselves and to expand their understanding of others. That's why St. Richard's partners with Indianapolis Public Library to provide a wide array of books. 

Healthy Food Options

Children need healthy food to fuel growing minds and bodies. That's why St. Richard's provides lunch and snacks daily, included with tuition, that help expand students' taste buds.
